Australian restaurants, cafés and bars in Toronto: a short list and a long night

Drawing for Australian restaurants, cafés and bars in Toronto: the ExpatCooee boomerang with the word PUB, a beer glass, a meat pie and an Aussie rules football.
A taste of home in Toronto: a cold one, a pie and a midnight bounce.

Toronto has a strong Aussie community but very few Aussie venues. We could confirm only a handful in 2026, so this guide is short and honest.

The short version

  • Toronto has no Australian-run café or restaurant that we could confirm is trading in 2026.
  • The nearest thing to an Antipodean local is Hemingway's in Yorkville, a New Zealand-owned bar that shows rugby and cricket [1].
  • The Toronto Dingos held their 2026 AFL Grand Final party at Dublin Calling on Adelaide Street, with doors at 8pm on Friday 25 September [2].
  • For pies and Vegemite, the community is your best guide. Toronto's café scene does a good flat white even without an Aussie flag on the door.

How we built this list

We looked for Australian-owned and Australian-style cafés, restaurants, pie shops and bars, then checked each one's own website in November 2026. We kept only venues whose site was live and showed the connection we were writing about.

That left very little. An Aussie pie shop that Toronto Australians used to recommend has a website we couldn't check and no recent confirmation we could verify, so we've left it out. If it's still baking, or you know an Aussie-run café we've missed, tell us in the group and we'll add it.

Rather than pad this out with venues that aren't Australian, we've focused on what actually helps: where to watch the footy, the one bar that gets Antipodean sport, and how to find a taste of home.

Bars and sport

Hemingway's

Area: Yorkville, Cumberland Street

Hemingway's isn't Australian. It's run by New Zealanders, and its menu is inspired by New Zealand food [1]. For Aussies in Toronto, it's still the closest thing to a familiar local. The bar has 20 screens and shows rugby, cricket and international football alongside the Raptors, Leafs and Blue Jays [1]. It also says it's open every day of the year [1]. Go for a Test match, a Bledisloe Cup grudge match with your Kiwi mates, or a late-night pint when the cricket is on in the small hours. It doesn't list AFL, so ring ahead if you're hoping for footy.

Dublin Calling

Area: Downtown, Adelaide Street

Dublin Calling is an Irish pub, not an Aussie one. It earns its place here because the Toronto Dingos picked it for their 2026 AFL Grand Final party, billed as "Canada's Biggest AFL Grand Final Party" [2]. Doors opened at 8pm on Friday 25 September, with footy coverage from midnight and tickets at the door [2]. The venue may change next year, so check with the Dingos in late August.

Where to watch the footy

Toronto runs 14 to 16 hours behind the east coast of Australia. That puts a Saturday afternoon Grand Final at the MCG around midnight on Friday in Toronto. NRL and State of Origin land in similarly unsociable hours.

  1. Follow the Toronto Dingos. The club runs the big Grand Final party and posts the details, including the prize list, on its website [2].
  2. Join the wider footy scene. AFL Ontario runs the local competition, and its clubs are where watch-ups get organised [3]. The Dingos train at Balfour Park near Yonge and St Clair and welcome beginners [4].
  3. Try Hemingway's for rugby and cricket. Ring ahead for anything else [1].
  4. Plan for the hour. Have a nap, eat before you go and sort your ride home before the bounce, not after the siren.

Coffee, brunch and a taste of home

You won't find an Aussie café we could confirm, but you can still eat like you're home on a Sunday.

  • Flat whites. Toronto's independent cafés make good ones. Leslieville, Ossington, Queen West and the Annex are good places to start looking.
  • Brunch. Toronto takes it seriously. The weekend queues in Leslieville and Roncesvalles will feel like a Melbourne Saturday.
  • Pies and sausage rolls. British and Portuguese bakeries fill the gap until someone opens a proper Aussie pie shop. Ask in the group for the current favourite.
  • Vegemite and Tim Tams. Look in the international aisle of bigger supermarkets and in British import shops. Prices sting, so many Aussies rely on care packages.
  • Aussie wine. Ontario sells wine through the LCBO. Check its range online for Australian bottles before you go.
