Australian restaurants, cafés and bars in Seoul: a short list, honestly
We went looking for every Australian café, pie shop and pub in Seoul. We could confirm one Australian brand trading in 2026. Here it is, plus where Aussies get their fix.
The short version
- The one sure thing: bills, the Sydney brunch institution, has two Seoul restaurants, in Gangnam and Jamsil [1][2].
- Older Aussie-style cafés: guides have listed Summer Lane in Itaewon and Caravan in Mapo, but we couldn't confirm either is still trading in 2026 [4][8].
- No Aussie pub we could verify: Itaewon bars have screened State of Origin in the past [5], but nothing we could confirm for 2026.
- The footy: the AFL's 2026 list of overseas Grand Final parties had no Seoul entry [6]. Your best bet is the Cooee group.
- The community: ANZA Korea runs a Melbourne Cup luncheon, an autumn barbie and monthly coffee mornings [7].
Why the list is short
Seoul has a world-class café scene, and you'll get a good flat white in Seongsu, Yeonnam or Hannam without trying. What it doesn't have is many venues that are Australian-owned or deliberately Australian.
We searched local guides, expat directories, Korean listings, sport club pages and the Australian Embassy's community page. Several places that turn up in older articles, including two Aussie-style brunch cafés, a sports bar that used to show Origin, a bar said to have an Australian owner and an Aussie meat pie seller, have no recent evidence that they're still open. Rather than send you across town to a closed door, we left them out.
If you know an Australian-run venue in Seoul that's open now, tell us in the group and we'll check it for the next update.

Brunch: bills
bills
Where: Gangnam (2F Arc Place, 142 Teheran-ro) and Jamsil (1F Lotte World Mall) [1].
Why Australians go: It's the Sydney brunch export, started by chef Bill Granger, and it's the most Australian breakfast in the city [3]. The Gangnam restaurant is open every day from breakfast through dinner, takes bookings all day and usually fits walk-ins [2].
What to order: Expat magazine 10 Magazine points to the "Full Aussie", the ricotta and banana hotcakes, and sourdough toast with Vegemite [3]. Yes, Vegemite, on the menu, in Seoul.
Good to know: Gangnam is in an office tower on Teheran-ro, so it's handy for a work breakfast. Jamsil is in Lotte World Mall, which makes it an easy family stop.
Where Aussies used to go, and might again
These places appear in guides as Australian or Aussie-inspired, but we couldn't confirm they were open in 2026. We haven't linked them or put them in the table. Check before you go.
- Summer Lane, Itaewon: listed as a brunch café "with an Aussie twist" [4].
- Caravan, Mapo/Hapjeong: described in 2017 as an Australian-style café opened by two expats who grew up in Australia [8].
A taste of home: where to look
Without a strong Aussie venue scene, most Australians in Seoul build their own fix.
- Itaewon's foreign grocers. Itaewon is the long-standing international district, and it's where most imported groceries turn up. Vegemite and Tim Tams can be found, at a premium.
- Bring it in your suitcase. Ask visitors from home to bring a jar of Vegemite and a few packets of biscuits. It's the most appreciated gift you can ask for.
- Bake your own. Plenty of Aussies in Korea make their own pies and sausage rolls.
- Go to the ANZA events. The Australia and New Zealand Association runs a Melbourne Cup charity luncheon, an autumn barbecue, a Christmas party for kids and a monthly coffee morning [7]. That's your Aussie food and your Aussie people in one go.
Where to watch the footy
Seoul runs on Korea Standard Time with no daylight saving, so it's one hour behind Sydney and Melbourne in winter and two hours behind in summer. The AFL Grand Final is a lunchtime event and State of Origin is an evening one.
- AFL Grand Final: the AFL's 2026 list of overseas watch parties included Hong Kong and Tokyo, but nothing in Korea [6].
- State of Origin: Itaewon has a history here. In 2013 Sam Ryan's Sports Bar screened Origin live with Australian beer included in the cover charge [5]. We couldn't confirm a 2026 screening there or anywhere else.
- What works: pick a sports bar in Itaewon, ask a week ahead, and turn up with mates. One Aussie asking is a request; ten is a booking.
The fastest way to find a screening, or start one, is Cooee South Korea, our Facebook group for Australians in South Korea. Post the game and the time, and see who's in.
The venue list
| Venue | Type | Area |
|---|---|---|
| bills Gangnam | Australian brunch restaurant | Gangnam (Teheran-ro) |
| bills Jamsil | Australian brunch restaurant | Jamsil (Lotte World Mall) |
Short, we know. We'd rather give you one place that's definitely open than ten that might not be.
